L'85% circa del peso della mela è costituto dall'acqua, mentre dal 9% al 12% è costituita da zuccheri che, per le loro caratteristiche chimiche, non hanno controindicazioni per i diabetici. Sono poi presenti vitamine molto importanti, come la vitamina A, B1, B2, C e PP, acidi organici, sali minerali e oligoelementi come calcio, cloro, ferro, rame, magnesio, zolfo, potassio, fosforo. Infine troviamo la pectina che contribuisce ad abbassare il tasso di colesterolo nel sangue. 

Geografia e origine: la MELA

Il melo (Malus communis o Malus domestica) è una pianta da frutto appartenente alla famiglia delle Rosacee, la stessa alla quale appartengono tante altre piante da frutto molto conosciute come, per esempio, l’albicocco, il ciliegio, il cotogno, il mandorlo, il nespolo, il susino, il sorbo ecc. Esistono circa 7000 varietà di mele di diversa origine nei vari paesi, differenti per colore, consistenza, sapore e contenuti nutrizionali. Alcune di queste varietà, disponibili in Italia, sono varietà tradizionali, altre sono note per la loro denominazione commerciale. 

Nel nostro Paese la produzione delle mele è concentrata nelle regioni settentrionali; la stragrande maggioranza (80% circa) del raccolto è infatti relativa a tre regioni: Trentino Alto Adige (46% circa), Emilia Romagna (17% circa) e Veneto (14% circa); altre regioni italiane con produzioni relativamente considerevoli sono il Piemonte, la Lombardia e la Campania.

Brano dei Dave Matthew Band, conosciuta anche con la sigla DMB, è una jam band statunitense formata nel 1991 e composta da Dave Matthews (voce e chitarra acustica), Leroi Moore (sassofono), Stefan Lessard (basso),Boyd Tinsley (violino elettrico), Carter Beauford (batteria). La canzone racconta i pensieri di Cristo durante la crocifissione. "Spoon" è stata eseguita per la prima volta in acustico nel 1997.
